Speeding up qualifying
If you have Pocket Sports Cycling, this will make sense. A gruelling cycling Tour required a semi complicated time trial system (rolling 10 times) to determine a starting position for each rider. Realistically, riders endure a tougher challenge and once the starting positions were set, they would carry over throughout the 3 country stages. It also introduced the mechanics to new players before the main race began.
I wanted to look at something different and unique for GP Racing, with a quick set up being the objective.
As there are 4 tracks with different numbers of sections (Monza 14 sections, Silverstone 15 sections, Catalunya 16 sections and Albert Par 17 sections) I decided to use the WHITE Pack die to determine starting grid positions.
By using 4 (four tracks in the Championship) as the divisible numbers into track sections, both Monza & Silverstone require 3 rolls of the WHITE die, while Catalunya and Albert Park require 4 rolls.
Each player will tally their rolls and that will be their grid position. Easy and simple.
But how do we avoid big random swings? By getting a podium finish (1st/2nd/3rd).
Any top place finish will allow you an 'extra' roll, with you then choosing the 3 lowest rolls to be your total for the next qualifying lap/track.
This will then keep Drivers leading the Championship points tally a little closer together as they carry 'momentum' and winning form into the next race.
Championship points will be awarded for: 1st place - 25 points; 2nd -18; 3rd - 15; 4th -12; 5th - 10; 6th - 8; 7th - 6; 8th - 4; 9th - 2; 10th - 1. If drivers are tied on points, positions are decided on results countback.
Dud rolls put you at the back of the pack? This random realism can be put down to your car not being in its best condition, weather affected tracks or Driver fatigue :)
